Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani or (BITSP) Pilani as it is known, was established in 1929. At that time it was a small school and today it has blossomed into a set of colleges for higher education, ranging from the Humanities to Engineering and Phrmacy. In 1964, all these colleges were amalgamated to culminate into a unique Indian University of International standing.
Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani (BITSP) was christened as the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, i.e. BITS Pilani and was accorded the status of deemed university in 1964. The institute provides courses in engineering field at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. Besides that, the BITS has got accredited by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) with A grade. BITS Pilani also has campuses at Goa, Dubai, and Hyderabad.
Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITSP) also provides accommodation for the students who live outside Jhunjhunu. However, students can always accommodate themselves as Paying Guests (PGs) in any part of the city. Also, houses on rent are easily available. The average expenditure of a student who lives in Jhunjhunu lies between Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 6,000 per month, depending on the life style of the student.
Central Animal Facility
Central animal facility at BITS Pilani is a CPCSEA (Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision on Experimentation on Animals) approved facility with total floor area of 5330 sq. ft. The facility maintains animal species like rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits. It is equipped with Incinerator (electrically operated) for the disposal of the biological and other biomedical waste. The facility is used for conducting advanced research in the areas of pre-clinical pharmacokinetics, bioavailability studies and pharmacological screening of various drugs.

Information Processing Centre caters to the computing needs of all students and staff and training requirements of several computer-oriented courses. It also houses a PARAM 10000 super computer. The students and faculty in the institute are provided with e-mail and internet browsing facility.
Instrumentation Centre is responsible for the installation, testing, service and maintenance of all instruments across the institute as well as providing facilities for design, development, fabrication and testing of various projects.
Centre for Software Development caters to the need for software development for in-house needs as well as external organizations.
Central Library looks after the need for books in various disciplines including Science, Technology and Humanities. Reference Library subscribes many current periodicals and makes available their back volumes. Reference books are displayed for reading within the premises.
Centre for Biotechnology encourages the development of excellence in Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering and other emerging areas.
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (BITSP) is located in the heart of the city and is well connected by various transport facilities like metro, train, bus and taxi. The nearest railway station and airport from the college are Jhunjhunu Railway Station and Jaipur Airport, located at a distance of around 20 KMs and 180 KMs, respectively. The various tourist places (like Palani Hills and Palani Murugan Temple) and food joints (like Pizza Hut and Mc Donalds) enable students to refresh themselves taking time out f their hectic schedules.
