The Department of Polymer Science and Rubber Technology was initiated by the University in 1971 in a joint effort with the Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII), Kottayam, perceiving the vitality of characteristic elastic and its criticalness in the Indian economy.
The B.tech (Polymer Science and Rubber Technology) was begun in 1972 as an issue year post-B. Sc. course. In 1978 it was changed over to a three-year B. Tech. course conceding understudies who have finished B. Sc. degree (10+2+3) in Chemistry or Physics. In 2004 the course was patched up totally to make it a four-year-long B. Tech. for which the affirmation necessity was Plus-two (10+2). From that point forward the confirmation is through an All-India Entrance test led by the University. In 2009, the course was redesignated as B. Tech. (Polymer Science and Engineering) by including new designing papers yet without trading off the elastic engineering substance. The in-take for every year is restricted to 20 understudies. This course, upheld totally by the Government, is a run with an educational cost expense of Rupees eight thousand just for every year. The understudies are likewise qualified for authority inn convenience.
The M.tech. (Polymer Technology) course was begun in 1985 with support from UGC and AICTE. The admission is 10 understudies for every year. Choice is focused around GATE score.
An extremely dynamic situation cell is the highlight of the Department. In the not so distant future effectively five organizations have gone to and three more are normal soon for recruiment. .
