A proud moment for Allahabad University came when a total number of 396 of its students cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC) on June 26, 2011. The results have already been announced by UGC.
This year while 12% students of Allahabad University have cleared the NET and are successful in getting fellowship of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), last year only 5% of the candidates had managed to clear NET.
It is important to mention here that for this year’s NET examination, a total number of 6626 candidates had applied but due to the clash of dates with the popular PCS (pre) 2011 examination of Public Service Commission, UP and other exam, just 2327 candidates appeared in the NET test, essential for being the eligibility for lecturership in university or degree college. Of all these, a total number of 94 students are able to bag Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) while another 202 students have managed to gain eligibility for lecturership. To talk about the last year, that is, December 2010 examination, a total number of 8631 candidates had appeared the test out of which 125 students had managed to bag JRF while 312 students were successful in attaining the eligibility to become lecturer.
The examination of NET is conducted twice a year, June and December. Normally the result of June exam is declared in October end but this time the result got delayed and has been declared now just one week prior to the December exam. As a result many candidates who had appeared in the June test had to fill up the December test forms as well so as to ensure that incase of failing to make the cut in the June test they do not end up wasting an additional six months of their career.
