Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is a premier institute for medical education in the country. AFMC is managed by Indian armed forces. Students doing their MBBS from this medical college are liable to serve at least 7 years in the armed forces. The graduate wing was started on 04 Aug 1962; Mr VK Krishna Menon inaugurated the undergraduate wing. The College of Nursing was added in 1964.
The Armed Force Medical College was founded in 1948 at Pune as a postgraduate training and research centre. The MBBS program was started in 1962 for the interested students. This medical college is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Science. After doing MBBS from this college, candidates can be assured of service in the armed forces medical department.
The Armed Forces Medical College has well equipped campus which is surrounded by Sholapur Road on the North, Prince of Wales Drive to the East, Wanowrie Road to the South and Ferguson Road to the West. The college campus is spread over an area of 160-acres which accommodates various blocks, library which contains more than 18, 000 books, journals and medical labs.

Armed Force Medical College is a fully residential campus with best of facilities, infrastructure and faculty. The college celebrated its golden jubilee in 1998 with pride and was inaugurated by Shri George Fernandes, the then Defence Minister of India. A candidate must have attained an age of 17 years before 31st December, 2010 and should not be more than 22 years on 31st December, 2010. Besides a candidate should not be married and cannot marry even during the course. Also a candidate should be medically fit according to the specified standards.
Candidates should have passed all the subjects in the first attempt of qualifying examination and should have secured at least 60% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and at least 50% in each of these subjects individually and also in English.
Method of selection:
Candidates have to first give a written test. The syllabus of the written test will be same as 11th and 12th standard Syllabus. Those who clear the written test will be called for interviews and medical test at a later stage.
