After the results of IIT-JEE 2012 were out, Andhra Pradesh came out to be the toppers this year also. Out of top 50 students who cleared IIT-JEE, 19 students were from Andhra Pradesh. 1st three rank holders were from the madras zone. As compared to Andhra Pradesh, only 40 students from Tamil Nadu could make it to the top 1000 list whereas 193 students from Andhra Pradesh were in top 1000 list. In past 60 years, only once in 2001, there was a JEE topper from Chennai. There have been more than thrice that Delhi and Mumbai gave JEE toppers. This year, from Madras Zone, 40 students are in first 100 list and 27 are in 100-200 list. Most of the toppers are from Hyderabad and some other places in Andhra Pradesh. Most of the people blame the state board syllabus of Tamil Nadu for not scoring well in IIT-JEE as the syllabus is very different from the JEE curriculum. This year only 200 students out of 9000 students in Tamil Nadu cleared IIT-JEE. Only few places in the state like Coimbatore and Madurai have IIT coaching centers but in Andhra Pradesh, every district has a coaching center for IIT. This is the reason why Tamil Nadu is lagging behind in IIT results.
