  • The CBSE will decide on Thursday if it should make available JEE (Main) exam answer keys to candidates.

This follows complaints that the scores of many candidates were much lower than they had expected. Many of these students can't appear for JEE (Advanced) as they have failed to meet the cut-off mark of 113. They're unhappy that their efforts over the last two to four years have been in vain, for no fault of theirs.

Registrations for JEE (Advanced) started on Wednesday and nearly 20,000 students had signed up by mid-day.

Harshwardhan Sawal, for instance, scored 103 in the JEE (Main). He has gone through almost every answer key published by various coaching institutes and believes he should have scored 149.

"Many students like me are forced to go by what our tuition teachers are saying as CBSE hasn't published a model answer key," he said.

Students said the board has not responded to their mails and that the helpline numbers are always busy. "If the CBSE is sure that the answer keys of coaching classes are not reliable, it should release its own," said the mother of a student. She has also been seeking an appointment with CBSE officials in Delhi.

Another parent said, their mails to various authorities, including the HRD ministry, have gone unanswered.

"Only 4-5 days are left for the last registration date for JEE (Advanced). There is no hope left for students.

The authorities have been indifferent to our problems."

Naresh Warke, whose daughter spent the last two years preparing for the exam, said, "If the margin of difference is too high and there are too many complaints, the least the board can do is provide us the answer key and our OMR sheets."

A senior CBSE official said that "most of the complaints made by students earlier did not hold up". "The board will take a call on Thursday on the answer key issue."
