The recent result of class X left many students disappointed as schools in the city rejected their applications and denied them admission to class XI science stream because of the low marks they obtained in the exams. Some 684 such students on Wednesday heaved a sigh of relief as the District Education Officer (DEO) RI Patel, with a view to enabling a centralised admission process, allotted seats to them.
Though the academic year has started, as many as 684 students of Ahmedabad had not got admission in any of the city schools. For them, the DEO has invited applications for allotting them admission.
Sharing figures, Patel said, "We have received as many as 684 applications. Against this, a lot of vacancies in various schools exist currently. In Gujarati medium schools, there are 617 seats in granted schools and 1,514 seats in non-granted schools. Similarly for English medium, there are 539 seats in granted schools and 597 in non-granted schools. The whole idea is to enable centralised admission process. We have the list of vacancies in different schools and have invited students to select the school of their choice, wherever the vacancy exists."
