Proceeding with a year ago's pattern, a percentage of the engineering colleges in the state this year have close down a couple branches they offered till a year ago or they have lessened their admission limit. While a little number who has seen an increment sought after for specific courses has expanded their admission limit. Educationists assert that many seats lying empty in universities are compelling their administrations to close shop. A year ago more than 50,000 seats were empty in engineering universities after the three rounds of centralized counseling. This year, the procedure starts today with hopeful’s enrollments.
Measurements from an express government's determination demonstrate that few universities have close down branches in electronics, mechanical and other center projects prompting more than 1,000 less seats in engineerig colleges this year from the pool of 1.6 lakh seats. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) got around 1 lakh applications for these seats. A large portion of these universities which are closing down courses are from the provincial ranges. At Saraswati Engineering College, Kharghar, seats in four branches they offer have gone around 15-30 seats, while KC College of Engineering and Management Studies in Thane got approbation to run courses with 60-90 seats in four branches including electronics, information technology and computer engineering. AC Patil College of Engineering, Kharghar, got assent to run courses with 45-90 seats in five branches.
An authority from the DTE said, "While more than 850 new seats are included the concentrated admission process, around 1,300 seats have reduced. It won't have any kind of difference to the hopefuls, as schools who are not ready to capacity are closing down."
Key of Thadomal Shahani College of Engineering, G T Thampi, said, "This is the second year of admissions in view of the JEE (Main) positions, so the procedure ought to be streamlined. A year ago ascertaining the 50 percentile in HSC exam and 50 percentile from the JEE (Main) rank took somewhat more time."
