  • The reward has come to MS Gajendra, the winner in the boys' inter-high school road race competition conducted by Challengers Athletic Club at the University of Mysore athletic ground here on Saturday, in the form of free pre university education which will be given by Vidya Vikas Educational Education. The institution provides free education to around 15 school-going and college-going students every year.

Kavish Gowda, secretary of Vidya Vikas Educational Institution and one of the guests during the prize distribution function, was so delighted with Gajendra's performance that he has come forward to provide him with a free Pre-University education. The institution provides high school and Pre University education and also various UG, PG and diploma courses. Also, the institute provides cash prizes to sportspersons who do outstanding job.

Gowda says, “I heard that Gajendra is very studious and also good at sports. So, to encourage him I decided to offer him free education at our institution. He can chose either science or arts stream. We have been giving free education since we started the institution and we will continue to do so in the days to come. We are always there to help the needy, especially those coming from rural areas."

According to, C Krishna, director, department of physical education, University of Mysore, “This is a good gesture from Kavish Gowda and is a good development. I hope more private institutions will follow the example of Vidya Vikas Educational Institution in the coming days."

The organizing secretary of Challengers Athletic Club, Srikant while describing his happiness over Gowda’s performance, says, “I felt really great when Kavish came out with this offer. It will motivate other participants to take up sports seriously and increase the number of participants in the competition. Rural students are always deprived of basic facilities. If they are encouraged, then we will we come across more talented sportspersons."

Kavish Gowda is the son of Vasu, former Mayor and senior Congress leader who is the chairman of the institution. Vasu is the man behind all these developments. He has also lent a helping hand in conducting various sports and other events in Mysore.
