Gujarat University (GU) is attempting to get higher grades from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission ( UGC) this year. As a part of its gearing up to present itself better during the inspection visits of NAAC officials, the vice-chancellor (V-C) of Gujarat University has instructed all its departments to set up alumni associations.
Gujarat University VC Parimal Trivedi has called a meeting of all the heads of the departments and deans of the faculties for a meeting on Friday to discuss the ways of preparing itself to raise its grades in the NAAC visit in 2012. During the last visit in 2007 NAAC gave GU a B+ Grade. An official of Gujarat University said, "We are keen on getting a higher grade from NAAC this year and we are preparing rigorously for it."
During the meeting, Trivedi has directed all the heads of departments to set up alumni associations for each department without any delay. Alumni associations and their activities are one of the criteria that NAAC officials look into at the time of grading a university.
Gujarat University will also be conducting a mock test of NAAC grading. The head of the departments of GU have been instructed to prepare a list of researches that have been conducted in each department, syllabus followed, achievements, facilities available and so on, and submit it to the university.
