  • To intensify the agitation against the government's medium of instruction (MoI) policy, two student associations of the Goa university (GU) have decided to kick off an awareness drive in colleges in the state from Saturday.

On Friday, the two associations, Konkan Saraspat mandal and Maratha Saradha mandal, staged a peaceful day-long dharna at Azad maidan and a rally in Panaji to protest against the government decision of providing grants to English medium schools.

During the rally students shouted anti-government slogans, "Tornatteancho ek avaz English bhair maimbhas zai" and "Tornatteanchi xeokti tuka dhakoitole English amcher laldli zalear Goem pettoitole."

"We have decided to start a awareness campaign in all the colleges on the medium of instruction issue. We will begin from Saturday," said Yugank Naik, student, Goa university. Naik said that they will start the awareness campaign from Ponda taluka in colleges like Ravi Sitaram Naik college and GVM college.

During the day-long dharna various activities such as singing and dramas were held to protest against the MoI. Two songs on CDs to educate Goans on MoI issue were also released at the dharna.
