The government put a hold on a controversial notification issued by UPSC making English a requirement for the candidates appearing for I.A.S. Notification was issued on March, 5, 2013, which was opposed by M.P’s demanding revocation of the notification.
The parliament was stormed after announcement was made by Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy in the Lok Sabha. As members called the notification “unconstitutional” and a “conspiracy” against the weaker section of the society.
"Government will call a meeting of the UPSC to discuss and resolve the issue. In the meanwhile, we will keep the notification in abeyance. Status quo ante will be maintained," Narayanasamy said.
