Dr. Rajeev Bindal, Health Minister said here today that MBBS seats in Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda had been increased from 50 to 100 and added that information of Medical Council of India had also been received by the State Government yesterday.
Health Minister said that the MBBS seats in Medical College had been increased due to sustained efforts of Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister who took up the matter with the Centre time and again and the Government got the seats increased after completing all specified norms. He said that with this approval two posts of teaching faculty would be filled up, modern technical machinery to be provided and there is also provision of infrastructural facilities.
He said that PG seats in Medical College, Tanda had also been increased from five to 29 and information about it had also been received by the Government. He said that Government was also trying its best to increase 25 more PG seats in Tanda Medical College and a proposal had also been sent to the Central Government.
Dr. Bindal said that with the continuous efforts of the State Government, World Health Organization had allotted seven Fellowship to Himachal Pradesh, out of 203 sanctioned fellowship and added that the entire expenditure of these fellowship would be borne by the WHO. He said that Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda had become 1st institute in North India to get these fellowship. He said that with these fellowship, new dimension in the field of medical sector would be set up which would benefit the people of the State. He further said construction work of Rs. 150 crore 200 bedded super speciality hospital in Tanda Medical college had already been started.
