The most-desired management course in the nation just got costlier. IIM-Bangalore has expanded the fees for its lead post-graduate programme (PGP) from Rs 17 lakh to Rs 18.7 lakh. With this, IIM-B will remain the costliest among its premier sister foundations.
The choice to increase the fees was made at a meeting of the leading body of governors on Wednesday. The fees have been increased after two years, which has been the practice at the 41 year-old institute.
IIM-Ahmedabad has also expanded the fees for three of its programmes for the next academic year. The 11% hike means fees for the three PGPs will be Rs 18.5 lakh (up from Rs 16.6 lakh). The current fees at IIM-Calcutta, IIM-Kozhikode and IIM-Lucknow are Rs 16.2 lakh, Rs 13 lakh and Rs 10.8 lakh, individually. These institutes have yet not reported any increment in fees for the following year.
There will, in any case, be no increment in the admission at IIM-B, which is attempting to open a second campus. It is yet to get ownership of area from the Karnataka government. "An increment in admission would mean more infrastructure and faculty," a source said. "It would not be feasible now."
