The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) is an institute headquartered in New Delhi, and has 18 branches across India. Founded in 1973, the institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in national economic planning and entrepreneurship, international and fellowship programmes. Its executive education programmes include non-credit courses and visits to foreign business schools. IIPM is not accredited by UGC or AICTE.
IIPM has been involved in controversies about its advertising. The University Grants Commission – a government organisation responsible for the standards of university education in India – has repeatedly issued public notices stating that IIPM is unrecognised and that its technical programmes are invalid. IIPM has responded by stating that it does not issue degrees and that it is not a university. In September 2014 Delhi High Court censured IIPM for misleading students and restrained it from using words like MBA, BBA, management course, b-school to describe the programs it offers.
IIPM was founded in 1973 in New Delhi. According to the institute its first residential, full-time, post-graduate diploma programme began in 1974. IIPM has 18 branches across India; in New Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Noida, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow, Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Jaipur, Dehradun, and Cochin.
The Founding Director of IIPM is Dr. M. K. Chaudhuri, and the Honorary Dean is Arindam Chaudhuri.
IIPM is not approved by AIU, UGC and AICTE. It is thus not entitled to run a BBA or MBA course or to promote itself as running any course or programme in management or to promote itself as a management school or business or a B-School.
Indicting the institute for "misleading" students
HC also ordered Chaudhri to stopped display on website that they are recognized by any statutory body or authority. Futher the court said IIPM must come clean on exact status for whose degree or certificate the students are enrolling.
IIPM are "misleading, cheating and exploiting students attracted to the said Institute under the belief that they will acquire the qualification of MBA/BBA" even though it had no recognition. IIPM is neither a university within UGC norms nor is it a deemed university.
