IIT-Kanpur is yet to receive the money from the government meant for initiating the work on the project on one megawatt solar power plant to be installed in a village in Shivli. Anand, member of IIT-K while addressing a press conference said, “A sum of Rs 50 crore which we were to receive for setting up a solar power plant of one megawatt capacity has still not reached us despite the fact that the model of this solar plant was unveiled by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last year.”
The roadmap of the project was sent to planning commission after its clearance from the HRD ministry. But the result is unknown yet.
According to Anand, “An amount of Rs 2.05 crore is the cost which will be required in completing Indo-UK Performance and Stability of Photovoltaic project. The work in the direction of project has already begun.”
The project was to be funded by the science and technology department. The power generated by the solar plant would be used by the IIT-K and its adjoining areas like Nankari.
