The cut-off in all categories has reduced for the current year. For general category it is 105 marks against 115 last year, OBC is 70 points, SC is 50 points and ST points are 44 points. Indeed, even the number of applicants this year had lessened over a lakh.
On the pattern, R P Yadav, an IITian and former vice-chancellor of Rajasthan Technical University, said, "This is a genuine pattern. It shows two points. One is that hopefuls are losing enthusiasm for JEE exam and second, the decrease in cut-off implies that students have neglected to perform well."
The overall selection of 1.5 lakh hopefuls will be in four categories -general (75,750 wannabes), OBC (40,500), SC (22,500) and ST (11,250). Here general category means competitors will be picked from the Common Merit List that incorporates all category applicants.
The successful aspirants who made into top 1.5 lakh applicants can become eligibility to appear in the JEE (Advanced) exam only if they fulfill either of the two condition which say scoring above 75% marks in their individual board or in qualifying in top 20 percentile of their respective boards.
