The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Chromepet which had closed down recently because of the sit-in protests by the students will finally reopen on October 3 for the first and final year students, confirmed, P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice Chancellor, Anna University.
The decision was taken after a meeting on Tuesday conducted between the heads of the departments of the Institute.
“The first year students did not participate in the protests and their academic calendar has to be on pace with other colleges. For final year students, the placement drive was on and therefore the university has decided to reopen classes for both from October 3,” said Jawahar. He further stated, “I was willing to talk to the students who were staging the protest. Efforts were being taken to hold talks with the student representatives, two from each department, on Wednesday.”
The students who sat on protest on Monday and demanded action against the dean were insisting that VC should talk to the students in front of the media. However, the authorities want the students to talk to them first as they have withdrawn the suspension of four hostellers within a week.
