The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) has won a national award in intellectual property for an educational institution securing highest number of patents, with 78 patents to its credit, in the last five years.
The CII in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) & Indian Intellectual Property Office of the Government of India is honouring outstanding achievements in various fields for development of intellectual property (IP) with awards. IIT-M has won the award for an educational institution/university with the highest number of patents. “Many industries and external agencies both in public and private sectors work together with the institute and faculty towards development of new products, technologies and processes,” said Job Kurian, Dean, Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR). In fact, IC&SR was started in 1973 at the institute resulting in better interaction and a long standing relationship with industries.
