NIFT Entrance Exam
NIFT or National Institute for Fashion Technology is a very famous college in India for Fashion designing and various courses related to apparel manufacturing and other technologies and techniques. Aspiring candidates interested in pursuing a career in the field of Fashion can apply for the various courses offered by the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
Eligibility for NIFT Entrance Exam
Students applying for their various Bachelors' programmes should have a cleared the higher secondary examination from any Central government or state government recognized schools or possess and equivalent to the 10+2 systems. Some courses also require that one has to pass the 10+2 with specialization in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or diploma in engineering. Details on the eligibility criteria for each course vary and are detailed out in the prospectus.
Students appearing in their qualifying exams can also apply for the various courses offered by National Institute of Fashion Technology. However the admissions are subject to obtaining the eligibility, in terms of course completion details by the end of July. Candidates who belong to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled tribes and the physically handicapped category have to obtain the requisite certificates.
Exam Details and Selection Process
The call for applications for the entrance exams of the National Institute of Fashion Technology examination are published in all leading newspapers. The application forms are available at select AXIS Banks all throughout the country on payment of Rs 250 per form. The form can also be obtained at NIFT centers across India and can also be obtained by post on payment of Rs 350 by sending demand draft in favor of NIFT. The Entrance examination for National Institute of Technology is scheduled every year in the second week of February. Once the results of the written examination are published in March, the selected students are invited for another round of tests namely the situational test followed by group discussions and personal round of interviews. The filled in forms have to be sent back to National Institute of Technology on the designated date as mentioned in the prospectus. The examination fee for the general category is Rs 1000 and for the Scheduled Caste and scheduled Tribes is Rs 500. This fee has to be sent across along with the applications forms of the students.
The entrance exam is conducted in 8 centers across India. The entrance exams are objective type tests and it tests the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates. The General Ability Test consists of various tests on Quantitative ability which has questions on Arithmetic, Percentages, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, computer Applications, Probability and Statistics, Differential equations. The level of difficulty and the subjects are chosen in correlation to the courses the students are applying for. The Communication ability tests are designed to test the candidate’s day to day communication in English. There are also tests on English comprehension and Analytical Ability to test the student’s ability to comprehend a situation. Some courses also have tests on Business Domain that has questions on awareness about Fashion technology, current affairs, art and culture. The creative ability test judges students creativity, power of observations and innovation. The managerial ability tests for the management programmes judges the students on basis of case studies, business domain tests and logical ability.
There are various courses offered by the National Institute of Technology, both masters and bachelor level degrees. Some of the bachelor’s courses offers are Bachelors of Fashion Design, Leather design, Accessory Design, Textile design, Knitwear Design and communication Design. Some of the Masters courses offered are Masters in design space for which the students need to have a graduate degree from any recognized university in any design disciple. Students with BA in fine arts, B.Sc in textiles and clothing, B.Tech in textile or design are considered for this course. The other Masters courses like the degree programme in apparel Production and the Fashion Management Programme of NIFT also requires students to have the requisite bachelor's degrees.
After their course in National Institute of Fashion Technology, students can either choose to design on their own or work for several fashion houses across the country and all over the world. Students in apparel design can also take up roles as Merchandisers and there by procuring the latest fashion clothes from all over the world.
