A total of 6,326 seats, nearly 40% seats have remained unoccupied in the state in MBA and MCA colleges even after the two rounds of admission reshuffling. The colleges have been given permission to continue with the admissions for vacant seats on their own from Thursday. Academicians remain worried over the high number of unoccupied seats.
While in MBA colleges 5,923 seats have remained vacant out of 14,400 seats; in MCA colleges 1,033 seats have remained vacant out of 5,000 seats.
Admission committee officials of the Gujarat Technological University (GTU), while trying to figure out the reason for unoccupied seats said that a large number of students were granted admission online but cancelled the same when they went to the college to pay the fee and found it lacking in infrastructure and teaching staff. They added that there are 6 colleges where not a single student has taken admission and 35 colleges with less than 10 students who have taken admission this year.
Due to this, the admission committee officials have decided to put the admissions of two new colleges on hold. The colleges are located in Ahmedabad and Rajkot respectively and both had 60 seats each.
