The state government has notified that, 10+1 (11th) examination, which was conducted by HP Board of School Education (HPBSE), would not be conducted from the next academic year, that is, 2012, according to a government spokesman.
The decision has come as a big relief for students who used to give board examinations at the level of class VIII, class X, class 11 (ten plus 1) and class 12 (ten plus 2). The worry of educationists about the burden on students has also been reduced with this decision, otherwise, the educationists were critical of the government’s education policy which created burden on students but generated huge revenues for the education board.
According to an anonymous school principal, “Students, including girls, had to pay examination fees for the board exams conducted by HPBSE which was defeating the very objective of providing free education to girl students. Barring examination fees, Himachal government has declared free education for girls right upto university level.”
