Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced an online appreciation program on sustainable management of biodiversity for one month. The purpose of this course is to understand & develop the quality of life through the protection of natural resources.
The application criteria for this course is that applicant should possess a graduation degree in any subject. But preference will be given to those who have postgraduate degree, or persons belonging to the backgrounds like researchers, scientists, engineers , medical doctors, stake holders, policy-makers , administrators, and other professionals with relevant qualification.
Shachi Shah, program coordinator, appreciation program on sustainable management of biodiversity viewed that the aim of this program is to offer students improved understanding of biodiversity science & management & also to make this generation aware about natural resources.
The course will cover areas like biodiversity & its importance, agro biodiversity, threats to biodiversity & sustainable use of biodiversity . At the final stage of this course students will take a project bearing in mind about the matter of local field conditions. The course will also provide its students the scope of practical application of their knowledge taught in that course.
Shah further stated that eight faculty members of IGNOU will conduct classes. The counselling sessions will be operated by visiting faculty & experts.
This particular course will be available online on the Sustainable Action & Virtual Education Platform. There will be four cycles in an academic year which are July, October, January & April.
