Patna University (PU) has decided to change the format of entrance test for undergraduate (UG) courses in its distinctive institutes from the upcoming session. The choice, embraced by the academic council, is gone for selecting a superior part.
Patna University is the main university in Bihar to concede candidates passing +2 examinations from Bihar School Examination Board, Central Board of Secondary Education and Indian School Certificate Examination through entrance test conducted independently by its universities. The entrance exam test for undergraduate courses was presented by previous PU vice chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh in 2012.
Under the current framework, aspiring students were asked to answer 100 objective type questions of one mark each. Out of 100 questions, 40 marks were from general knowledge and aptitude test and the remaining 60 from the subjects concerned. But, over the years, the academics realized that too much emphasis on general knowledge and aptitude test was not fruitful in selection of deserving candidates.
PU pro vice chancellor Ranjit Kumar Verma said by proposed change in configuration, the students would be answered to answer just 10 questions from GK, 15 from quantitative aptitude test and 75 from the faculty concerned. While a student aspiring for admission to the B.Sc course would need to answer 25 questions each from physics, chemistry and maths or biology, the one aspiring for admission to BA and B.Com courses would need to answer 75 questions from the staff of humanities concerned, social science or commerce, he said. The details of college-wise entrance test under the changed pattern would be finalized shortly, he said.
PU is yet to present entrance test for its post graduation courses even as a choice to this impact was taken by the academic council at least three years ago.
In the mean time, all the colleges under PU are preparing for admission to distinctive professional and financing courses both at undergraduate and post graduation levels. While Patna Women's College has officially declared its admission plan, different colleges are prone to stick to this same pattern quickly.
Patna Science College will report the admission schedule of all its professional courses one week from now. Application forms for admission would be on sale from the first week of May and the entrance test would be led in the first week of June. All admissions to the professional courses and the general courses would be finished before the end of June, said school Principal Upendra Kishore Sinha.
