  • Considering that today’s full-of-crime environment is quite unsafe for females to survive, The Bihar government decides to train school-going girls in Karate. The thought behind is to make them aware of effective self-defense tactics so that they can prevent sexual and any kind of harassment on their own.

The Martial Art Training programme would be covering 10 lakh schoolgirls from 20, 000 middle schools in the state. Rahul Singh, the director of the Bihar Education Project Council, informed that this programme will be executed as a part of the National Programme of Education for girls at elementary Level. Presently, 1,500 girls from 150 middle schools are being given martial art training and the target is to reach 10 lakh girls by 2014.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, for last few months, has been repeatedly asking girls to learn martial art styles like Judo, Karate and Taekwondo. These defense-cum-attack styles he believes are essential for physical strength and would enable girls to defend themselves any kind of harassment caused by men.
