New Delhi: Students to receive scholarship amounts directly to the bank accounts
To safeguard the interest and to avoid harassment of students, the central scholarships would be credited directly to the students bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer program.
UGC, the apex body of university in India has asked all recognized educational institutions to implement the scheme. UGC directed the institutes to register themselves with the Public Financial Management System serving as a common central portal for registering implementing agencies and beneficiaries. Universities are also directed to display the scholarship scheme and the initiatives of the HRD ministry on the home page of the portal.
The step will ensure transparency in verifying the applications of students and smooth disbursement of the scholarship amount. The uploaded applications on PFMS portal need to be validated by the institutes online without any delay to safeguard the interests of students and to prohibit discrimination and harassment of any student.
Najma Heptulla, minority affairs minister has already written to the chief ministers with a request to ensure measures under the new scheme.
