TANUVAS to offer B.Tech. in poultry production technology

  • Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) will offer a new course, a first of its kind, a B.Tech. in Poultry Production Technology from this academic year.

    The course is an industry-oriented four-year degree programme offered at the Institute of Food and Dairy Technology, Koduvalli, and Institute of Poultry Production and Management, Madhavaram Milk Colony, Chennai.

    Eligibility criterion for the course is a pass in Plus-Two with Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry as subjects with marks as prescribed in the prospectus. The number of seats available for admission is 20.

    The students will be taught various subjects in the discipline of basic sciences, poultry production technology and processing engineering technology, business management and information technology. The curriculum will also include hands on training through in-house projects, in-plant training, experiential learning and in-built internship programmes.

    The Institute of Food and Dairy Technology at Koduvalli which is recognised by the AICTE has well equipped class rooms, laboratories, workshop and well stocked library as well. Separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls, sports facilities and extracurricular activities like NSS are also offered.

    Career options for the graduates will be in Technical/ Managerial positions in breeder farms, hatchery industry, feed industry and poultry processing industry, design/ research and development posts in poultry equipment manufacturing firms and a range of options at universities and research institutions.
    Graduates are expected to be absorbed into the poultry industry which has shortage of technocrats.The university has designed the course to address the shortage in manpower and to outfit the technological needs of the poultry industry.The industrial poultry sector is estimated to employ nearly 2.5 million people with India being the third largest chicken egg producer and fourth largest chicken meat producer.
