Aspirants appearing in civil services exams have hailed the changes recently introduced by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). To add to the joy, educationalists and experts have joined the chorus and appreciated the step saying that it would ensure that candidates for administration are chosen on leveled grounds.
As a major change, the Commission has introduced English language paper. The score of the English paper will count in final selection process for various elite services for central jobs. Experts are quite happy to see general studies given more weightage. And testing candidates on the bases of ethics, integrity and aptitude they believe is excellent thinking.
Before these changes were introduced, the overall selection process was based on optional subjects with maximum marks. Most of the students used to score well in high-scoring optional subjects like Science and Mathematics and get through. Quite contrary to this, it was not that easy to score this much in humanities and language papers.
Thus, the selection process seemed quite unfair. Since civil services tests now will be more of a general studies thing based on current affairs and decisive abilities of the candidates, they are no doubt going to ensure a level playing field and take deserving candidates for administration in.
