Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going to introduce an open book exam in the final exams. This new section will be attached to the final exams of 9th, 10th and 11th classes from this academic year only. However, for board exams of class twelve, open book exam will start from the academic session 2014-15.

This section as is expected will prove to be highly helpful for students. Actually, under ‘open book’ system students will have to prepare case studies on the topics given 4 months before final exams. Later in the finals, in open book section, students will be asked questions based on the case studies which will have 20% weightage.

For classes 9, 10 and 11, all subjects will be included in the own book exam. On the other hand, for twelfth class only Biology, economics, Geography and a language will be included for the same. The motto behind this step is to promote conceptual learning based on perfect comprehension among students. Now open book system will help students avoid rote learning and focus on thoughtful learning, hopefully.
