Total five lakh candidates appeared for the IIT-JEE test in 2012 for 9,600 seats & approximately 12 lakh candidates plan to write the AIEEE test for 35,000 seats. So it has been feared that very few students will get admission to engineering colleges this year. There are 14.85 lakh engineering seats in India under 3,393 colleges that are granted by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). These colleges impart knowledge on 36 courses. As most of the students are not aware of their options, many of them miss out on alternatives. The same case has happened about AIEEE scores too. This is the real reason behind shortage of seats for engineering courses. This year CBSE operated the AIEEE test through online & offline manner. The date of offline examination was April 29. In case of online method, the dates for the test were from May 7 to 26. The successful candidates have to go through a central counseling process according to their ranks in the test. The central counseling will begin from June 16 & end on August .Students will be provided three types of rank by AIEEE like the All India Rank, the State Rank & Category Rank. The counseling will be arranged in 30 National Institutes of Technology. Among them some sessions will be held on Indian Institutes of Information Technology, Indian Institute of Information Technology & Manufacturing & Indian Institutes of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing. The rest of the counseling processes will be conducted in some government & government aided institutions & in some private & self financed institutions. The online registration procedure & filling up of choices will be completed between June 16 & June 25. Three rounds of seat allotment will be exercised on June 27, July 5 & July 12. Students can alter their choices once again between July 17 & 22. The institutions that will take part in counseling session will start their classes on July 23. The fourth round of allotment of seat will be operated on July 25. Candidates, for whom seats will be allotted on fourth round, can complete admission formalities at the respective institutions between July 25 & 30. The date of completion of internal sliding is August 1.A spot round will be arranged on August 8 for those candidates who are yet to get a seat. Those candidates will be able to register, fill & lock their preferred courses between August 3 & 6.
