The youth of today’s time is filled with zest and exuberance. They just want to be on the top most position. While one wants to become Sachin Tendulkar, the other wants to be Ratan Tata. Their high dreams in their eyes force them to work in that direction and they do immense hard work to achieve their goals. But in today’s such a competitive era, is only hard work enough to achieve those dreams? Is hard work the only key to success in today’s time?
Certainly NOT! The times have gone when only working hard used to take you so far on the path of success. Today, with so much of competition everywhere smart work rather than hard work provides more gain. There are many people in schools and colleges who do a lot of hard work in order to score good marks and still land up getting average or below average marks. There are also a set of students who never do much hard work and yet score relatively well marks. The question arises why and how? The answer is simple. They know how to manage their work smartly.
However, it does not mean that hard work has no value in today’s time. Hard work done anytime is beneficial but there is a systematic approach towards everything that should be adopted. If this systematic approach is mixed with hard work, it certainly gives in better results. All the big entrepreneurs today, whether they are Mukesh Ambani or Lakshmi Mittal, today are on the top just because they worked hard and played smart.
But, there always arises a question that in this ‘hard work vs smart work’ why has smart work taken more significance than hard work? The reason for this is that there are many people who do a lot of hard work and every person has the capability of doing hard work but as far as the smart work is concerned, not everyone has the capability of acting smartly. There are very few people who can play smartly and as a result they are more successful than others.
There also arises another question, ‘what is exactly meant by ‘playing smart’?’ There are different definitions of smart work for different people. But broadly, smart work means doing a work creatively with appropriate skills, knowledge and clarity of concepts. Acting smart does not involve much hard work as with the clarity of concepts and various techniques you tend to finish your work in half time and also tend to gain success in a much lower time. That is why it is always said, do not work hard, work smart.
To conclude, in the battle of hard work or smart work, smart work certainly provides more gain. This is because smart work is a way of doing work creatively with proper techniques which takes less time in completing the work and gives in better results and success in a shorter span of time. In today’s competitive world, it is very relevant for you to work smartly rather than work hardly if you want to climb the ladder of success in a relatively short span of time.
