  • This is the time for the directorate of distance education (DDE) to do a little self-analysis. The Distance Education Council of India (DECI) has disapproved all five post graduation courses run by the DDE and no new admissions for these courses can be done now.

The reason behind all this is more of a “Raise your standard, else raise your hands” thing. The DECI has advised the Directorate to revise all its courses and lessons. It is to be noted that despite of a huge number of students in different courses, the DDE could not provide printed lessons to them. However, since private presses used to do all the printing work for the DDE earlier, no lessons related problems have been there before. Now that the University after deciding to get lessons printed at PU press could not fulfill the DDE’s requirements, the problems have started.

As it is, the DDE is an independent body with only around 50 employees. It is offering three year degree courses in arts & commerce and postgraduate diploma courses in library & information science, journalism & mass communication, financial management, operations management & marketing management. Well, now the DDU has to stop admitting students to its courses until it meets the terms of the DECI.
